Oldsmobile's ultimate muscle car! The 1970 W-30 is the fastest Olds ever built , and considered by most to be "the" 442 to get. This particular example is the finest original W-30 I have ever seen, and it is one of just 1,032 4 speed 1970 W-30 cars produced.
Optioned just as a W-30 should be, with just the go-fast stuff! Finished in code 28 Twilight Blue with blue interior, this gorgeous W-30 has all the standard W-30 features, listed here as found in the 1970 Oldsmobile "W-Machine" sales brochure:
"4-4-2 W-30: The original Olds cold-air machine.Now featuring the big 455 cubic inch V-8 with 370-air-inducted horsepower. Nobody offers more in cubes! Or looks! W-30 Package includes:Special 455 cube cold-air V-8 with "select fit" pats. Lightweight fiberglass hood with functional scoops, big hood stripes,chromed hood tie downs, and low restriction air cleaner (W-25). Performance calibrated 4-bbl carb. High-overlap cam. Manual disc brakes, front, drums, rear. Power-saving clutch fan. Lightweight aluminum intake manifold.Reduced body sound deadener. Two sports-styled mirrors (D35). G70 bias-ply , glass belted raised white letter tires (PK5). Special paint stripes along body sides. Die cast W-30 identification on front fenders."
Additionally , this car is equipped with the factory M-21 close ratio 4 speed and G80 Performance Axle Package which is a 3.91:1 ratio gear , extra heavy duty radiator, Anti-Spin differential and heavy duty axle shafts. Power brakes were not available with M-21 equipped W-30 cars , as the 328 degree duration camshaft was used and would not support the vacuum needed for power brakes! This was one wild factory option package.The FE2 heavy duty suspension was also included.
What makes this car so special? It is a two owner car , the original owner purchased it in November of 1969 and sold it to the second owner in 1998 with just 78,000 miles on it. Currently, the car has just 81,000 miles on the clock.More importantly , this is a fully documented and 100% numbers matching car with all the paperwork including two mint factory build sheets , the original owner's manual, warranty book, Protect-o-Plate ,and original Owner Folio book bag.Better yet is the condition of the car. Unrestored and in exceptional original condition, it possesses most of its original paint (some spots have been touched up), completely original interior including the carpet and floor mats (!), beautiful original undercarriage with zero undercoating, and one of the best original trunks I have ever seen, including the original spatter paint and trunk mat glue! The original numbers matching engine and transmission were rebuilt at 78,000 miles, the engine was converted to hardened valve seats for unleaded fuel and fully balanced and blueprinted to 100% stock factory specs. This car is smooth, incredibly powerful , and as tight as a new car. It literally runs, drives, and performs as new or better in all respects. If you have not driven a W-30 , you deserve to do so in the near future! Let's just say that this is certainly NOT my Father's Oldsmobile - I agree completely with all of the experts that say the 370 HP rating was an "insurance number" and that the actual horsepower was perhaps 30-40 more!
In the years to come, these incredible W Machines will be looked back upon as one of the "sleepers" of the collector car world. With horsepower and production numbers on par with Ram Air IV Pontiacs, this is a lot of muscle for the money. Where else will you find an original, documented, original paint, numbers matching W-30 in a great color like this?
