Classic American Sports Car
Just arrived- 5S476- an unrestored, unmolested, highly original 1965 GT350 Street car. Now, most people selling a GT350 throw around those words lightly without apparently caring or perhaps knowing what an original, unmolested, unrestored 65 should look like. Just being a 1965 GT350 doesn't make it "original", and still having a Ford engine doesn't make it unmolested!
It takes a great 65 to impress me. I've owned and restored a ton of them, and am a real stickler for the details that make a 65 GT350, well, a 65 GT350! 5S476 is a great one. It has had four owners from new, the last one since 1983. Better still, it has resided in sunny and dry California for almost all of its life.
Repainted once roughly 20 years ago, it still presents exceptionally well with beautiful paint and flawless panel gaps that only an original sheetmetal, rust free car such as this will have. The underbody is clean and original, and while not detailed, is just fantastic with the original factory primer and light undercoating. The interior is completely original with the exception of an original Ford carpet set that was installed in the early 1980's. Now, as mentioned, I am fussy with details on these cars- I hate reproduction parts! 476 has its original Ray Brown seat belts, original steering wheel and center cap, original door panels, seat covers, shifter, gauge bezel, Shelby center dash pod (although it is cracked from the sun), and tons of other details. What is not original in the interior is the oil pressure gauge and tach were replaced with 1960's SW gauges in period. Likely because the original units were notoriously unreliable.
Under the hood, sometime early in its life 476 lost its original engine block. But the good part is that somebody replaced it with another 1965 Mustang K Code engine block- and based on the Ford VIN stamped in it, it is from a K Code Coupe that was built within 10 days of #476! Don't let the replacement block fool you, everything under the hood is 100% correct and original. For example, 476 has its original 715 Holley carb, ORIGINAL Tri-Y headers(!),all original valve covers, S1MS intake, SIMS oil pan, original pulleys, original Shelby air cleaner, original oil fill cap, original GT350 specific radiator, original K Code fan blade, etc. The original aluminum T-10M transmission still sends power to the original 9" rear with its Shelby-installed 3.89 Detroit Locker diff. The car runs and drives fantastic, with great power and that famous K Code bark from the glasspacks and side exhaust.
Of course, the Ford VIN has been verified with SAAC, the original Shelby VIN tag is in place, as well as the original Shelby VIN stamp on the right fender apron.
More original details: The original dated Koni shocks are in place, all glass and chrome is original, and the 1965 Cragar wheels and center caps are original pieces and NOT reproductions. Everywhere you look on 476 you'll see amazing original details that are always lost on abused, wrecked, rusted, or restored cars. And yes, the car was registered with the awesome Ca personalized plates pictured and they convey with the car!
If you have been looking for a great 65, come and check out 476. If you know what separates the good GT350's from the rest, you'll love this one. Especially after a good run through the gears!
